Abstract
This chapter reflects on the experience of living with a chronic illness, considering the repercussions of the illness on daily life, identity, social relationships, work, and life plans. It discusses the incorporation of care into routine, the burden of treatment, emotional, social, and economic challenges, and the importance of support networks. It highlights that managing these conditions depends not only on following prescriptions but also on material conditions, understanding guidelines, family support, and coordination between health services. Primary Health Care and nursing play a strategic role in longitudinal care, health education, risk monitoring, and the collaborative development of therapeutic plans. The chapter also addresses the contributions of supported self-care, digital technologies, and integrated care to enhance autonomy, self-efficacy, and quality of life. It concludes that comprehensive care should recognize the needs, preferences, possibilities, and barriers faced by each person, promoting viable, equitable, and life-centered care, not exclusively disease-centered care.
