The current study can be understood as descriptive and exploratory research with a quantitative and qualitative approach, by leading to understanding processes in which the object of study is developed. We involve a sample of thirty-two students and two teachers from the class surveyed. Through questionnaires, it was verified how the performance of the teacher through pedagogical practices of literary reading and literacy of the textual genre Cordel can contribute to the reading and critical training of students. The literate culture is a need that becomes, every day, more essential in a globalized society. It is not enough to have the ability to decode letters, it is not enough to know how to read and write, it is vital to develop the ability to understand what is being read, to be able to interrelate this knowledge with the multiple knowledge acquired previously. This ability offers advantages not only to the people who own it but also to the nations to which they belong. A great challenge in teaching, especially in public institutions, is to overcome the situation of failure commonly diagnosed in this scenario. To overcome this problem, it is necessary to re-read the pedagogical practice that is being used, to try to include the student in the school space as a protagonist of knowledge. The use of pedagogical projects that can be worked in parallel with the basic curriculum of the subjects has been a tool that has gained more prominence in schools that aim to offer a better quality of education and thus fulfill its role of citizen and labor market training. A Cordel Literary and Xylographs Fair was carried out, which provided the students with the experience with these textual genres, where they could make their texts and illustrations, developed in some of them talents not yet developed. Working with Cordel affects emotions directly, and this is increasingly necessary, both to achieve didactic goals, such as the development of reading, writing, and oral skills, and professional achievement, since the burden of work tends to get good results that strengthen us to continue trying to make education a possibility of social transformation.
