Abstract
This dissertation has the theme of Youth and Adult Education. The objective is to understand the factors that promote school dropout in this type of teaching. In a country where much is said about the disparate inequality of opportunities, the lack of investments and the development of social programs aimed at promoting the emancipation of individuals, it is important to take a look at an education model that seeks to rescue students who have escaped from school and they want to go back to school for different reasons. The challenges are not few, so it is interesting to expose the social programs launched by the government that aim to bring this student back to school by finding the solutions to obtain good results. To carry out this work, bibliographic studies of books and scientific articles were made. This research was based on the postulates of Libâneo (1985), Baquero (2009), Carbonesi (2014), Freire (2011), Pereira (2012), among other authors. Also being carried out field research of mixed nature, that is, qualitative and quantitative, in an exploratory way through a questionnaire, the research subjects being 19 students and 10 teachers, having as scenario the Municipal School Amenayde Farias do Rego Barros, located in the zone city, in the city of Gravatá - PE. Through the results and information taken from the research questionnaires, an increasingly growing reality can be seen in all phases of the EJA (Youth and Adult Education) teaching modality, which is precisely the increase in school dropout rates. According to the data collected and the percentages presented, there was a tendency related to dropout due to aspects related mainly to age, work, shyness, school violence, “bulliyng” and family. In view of the results indicated, another aspect that draws attention is precisely the age group of students who are looking for this type of teaching. In view of this reality, the need was found for the school to seek even more the promotion of integrative activities, adapting the curriculum to the student's reality; That the role of the teacher, as found in bibliographic research, has an important role in this process of teaching and learning and, in this sense, although the results are satisfactory in relation to the methodologies used, the school together with the Department of Education of the municipality of Gravatá - PE, should seek ways and means to further encourage the permanence of these students in this type of teaching. It is believed that, with government officials, actions that aim to awaken in the student attitudes and attitudes related to motivation, determination and spirit of cooperation and integration in the educational context, the high dropout rates would be considerably reduced.
