Abstract

This course completion work aims to compare behavioral therapy and clinical psychoanalysis. There are two distinct approaches to treating patients with anxiety disorders. Behavioral therapy is an evidence-based approach that focuses on identifying and changing negative and dysfunctional thoughts and behaviors, while clinical psychoanalysis is an approach that is more centered on understanding the patient's unconscious conflicts and past traumas. Therefore, we have the methodological resources of documentary research and base this work on the main authors: (Smith, J. (2021), Barlow, D. H. (2008), Beck, A. T., Emery, G. (1985), Freud, S ( 1900) and Lakatos, E. M.; Marconi, M. A. (1991). Thus, desk research suggests that behavior therapy is an effective approach in treating patients with anxiety disorders, whereas the effectiveness of clinical psychoanalysis in this context is less clear and requires further research. Therefore, without wanting to exhaust the vast field of behavioral therapy and clinical psychoanalysis, discussing some notes regarding the results, we interpret and analyze them critically.
