Abstract
Introduction: Cytological examination has the main function of detecting cervical cancer. In the same exam, it is still possible to identify sexually transmitted infections and other diversities of changes in the uterus and vaginal canal. There is an importance of the periodicity for the accomplishment of this exam, and the health professionals in general, must encourage the continued form, the women of their territory. Objective: To clarify the importance of encouraging cytological examination in primary health care. Methodology: Reflective research, which occurred from reading articles in Portuguese and English, which were published in the period from 2015 to 2019, on digital platforms. The studies were read, and based on the direction given by the objective, they were guiding the thoughts towards the results. Results: The prevention of cervical cancer is essential in primary care. The nurse is one of the professionals who is most close to the women of the territory, for having demands of a higher prevalence directed at them. The Community Health Agent has an essential role, as it forms a link between the community and the professionals, capturing women to perform the exam in a timely manner. In addition, waiting rooms and activities related to health education are also essential to encourage female care. Final Considerations: Cervical cancer screening is important for the perpetuation of women’s health care, in which it is necessary to stimulate the woman’s search for the exam, and to seek the health unit when she has a complaint and always you need.
