Abstract
Objective: Reflect on the visit made to the patient in the intensive care unit and the guidelines given to their families. Method: Reflective study, which brought together academic publications in magazines, books, booklets, manuals and guides related to the topic addressed. The reading was carried out in 2019, based on the practice that is carried out in the intensive care unit, aiming at the importance of guiding family members about the visit to the hospitalized patient. Results: During the reading, it was realized that it is necessary to guide family members about: silence, hand hygiene, not to touch the intensive equipment or medications to be taken, not to take pictures or interfere in therapeutic procedures. In addition, offering emotional support and pertinent information about the hospitalized patient. Conclusion: One of the roles of neonatal nursing is to promote patient safety in the intensive care unit, providing a peaceful environment, minimizing the negative effects of the disease and separation from parents, for this reason. I need the nurse to guide the parents about the procedures performed with the patient, talking about the rules, routines, equipment used, thus reducing the family member's anxiety and always seeking to resolve all possible doubts.
