Abstract
Bichectomy is a surgical procedure with aesthetic and functional purpose and consists of removing a fatty structure located in the cheeks, known as Bichat Ball or Bichat Fat. The removal of this fat improves facial harmony and has the functional objective of reducing chronic masticatory trauma to the buccal mucosa, resulting from the large volume of these anatomical structures. Bichectomy is a simple surgery to resection part of the adipose body of Bichat, indicated for patients with a significantly large cheek volume, with a history of trauma episodes in the jugal region. The present work consists of a literature review with a case report approaching diagnosis, planning and surgical treatment in a female patient whose main complaint was the excessive volume in the lower third of the face and the lesions in the jugal mucosa resulting from trauma during the chewing. The results of bichectomy aim to provide the patient with a result of facial harmony, improved aesthetics, self-esteem and long-term function.
