Abstract

Objective: To analyze the sociodemographic and clinical profile of patients with esophageal cancer in the triennium from 2020 to 2022 in Montes Claros, Minas Gerais State, Brazil. Methods: a descriptive study with a quantitative approach was carried out using data from patients diagnosed with esophageal cancer registered in the hospital records of the José Alencar Gomes da Silva National Cancer Institute. Results: in the three-year period between 2020 and 2022, 229 cases of patients with esophageal cancer were registered in the municipality. Conclusion: the patients who were diagnosed with esophageal cancer were mostly men, adult and elderly, brown, with low or no schooling, married, former alcohol consumers, current smokers with a positive history of cancers in the family group; The most frequently recorded detailed primary location was the middle third of the esophagus, with squamous cell carcinoma being the most commonly found, the degree of carcinogenesis was advanced in most cases, and the combination of chemotherapy and radiotherapy were the most commonly employed therapeutic modalities.
