Abstract
Introduction: Diseases of compulsory notification, require continuous monitoring, and in addition, activities that enable the prevention of its involvement. The waiting room takes place before the patient is seen at the Family Health Unit (USF), at the moment when he is waiting for the call for the service that will be offered to him. The main objective of the waiting room is to carry out health education for patients, at that moment when the patient has his idle time. Objective: To describe the actions related to the waiting room for the prevention of tuberculosis and leprosy. Methodology: Reflective study, built from in-depth readings, books, abstracts and articles published until the year 2019. The main points regarding the waiting room were summarized in terms of tuberculosis and leprosy. Results: The potential of the waiting room is something that needs to be seen. It works as a moment of practice for health education, aiming to promote care and reflections on the health of the individual and the community. The waiting room is a space for discussion, which provides for the maintenance of the community’s health, stimulating positions, participation, debates, welcoming and humanization in the service to the user. Thus, for the prevention of tuberculosis and leprosy, as well as other diseases, it is pertinent to happen. Final Considerations: The waiting room needs to be stimulated, professionals need to list relevant topics for the population and implement it in the community’s day-to-day activities.
