Abstract

The emergence of electronic cigarettes marked a shift in nicotine consumption, being popular among youth and former smokers. However, concerns about their safety and health impact have risen. Studies highlight the association between electronic cigarette use and acute lung injuries, such as EVALI. Mechanisms of injury include airway irritation and production of toxic compounds. The narrative review aims to synthesize the literature on this association, emphasizing the need for continuous surveillance, quantitative data, and coordinated actions to address this public health emergency.
