Abstract

Micronutrient deficiency is a major risk factor for the development of diseases, favoring an increase in childhood morbidity and mortality. It is noted that vitamin and mineral supplementation has been shown to be quite efficient in preventing illness, as it meets the nutritional deficits in food. Among the main nutrients recommended by the Brazilian Society of Pediatrics are vitamin A, vitamin D and iron, which, in addition to having benefits for growth and disease prevention, is also considered a low-cost treatment.
