Abstract

Introduction: Prenatal care is one of the relevant activities that take place in primary care, however, it is not only related to it, the pregnant woman runs through the entire health care network, using specialized, outpatient and hospital services. Prenatal care is something much bigger than you think, and moreover, it can go further than what you usually see. The family is waiting for the baby together with the pregnant woman, around this pregnant woman, there are various expectations, dreams and desires related to the family, requiring a broader view of the professionals during the care. Objective: To describe the prenatal care of women and their families in view of the broader view of health professionals. Methodology: Descriptive, observational study, experienced by nurses, in a Family Health Unit, in a municipality in Paraibano, in April 2018. Results: During the monitoring of the pregnant woman, many questions are raised, emotions, anxieties, doubts, not only of the pregnant woman, but of the family together. The father has his effective participation, which needs to be valued, in addition, the other family members are part of the active support network of the pregnant woman, and if it is her wish, they may be inserted in the context of prenatal care. Final Considerations: Thus, it is understood the importance of giving attention to the family of the pregnant woman, in addition to the pregnant woman herself, continuously. It is relevant to offer support so that the family can understand the gestational process, and that it is participatory in the process of knowledge about the mother and the baby.
